'Prometheus' Trailer: In Space, No-one Can Hear Your 'Inception' Horn
"I loved a clip for 'Inception,'" David Fincher told Moviefone. "I simply don't wish to result in the trailer for 'Inception.' I appreciate what it really was, but I'm not going my trailer to visit, "Whomb ... Whomb!" Personally i think that's their factor. They made it happen superbly, more energy for them. They top quality a seem. They top quality a means of the kind of throbbing proactive approach. Great. 'The Girl using the Dragon Tattoo' isn't that. It is a completely different factor. You realize, it is a very different experience." Indeed it's making you question if Ridley Scott feels exactly the same way following a discharge of the very first trailer for 'Prometheus.' Over disturbing images of space turmoil, the soundtrack features that familiar 'Inception' horn to progressively tense levels until it culminates having a lady (possibly co-star Noomi Rapace?) screaming, "Please!" Yikes and all sorts of, but: familiar. "They went searching for our beginning," reads a title card in the finish. "The things they found might be our finish." BRRNNNNNNNNN. Space 'Inception,' y'all! Starring Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba, Patrick Wilson, Guy Pearce and Rapace, 'Prometheus' hits theaters on June 21, 2012. As you've most likely heard right now, it might be an 'Alien' prequel and/or exist in the 'Alien' world. Mind to Apple to look at in HD or watch below. ABC News adjusts 'Picture'
One of ABC News prexy Ben Sherwood's top projects is coming to fruition: The entire division is launching a major rebranding initiative starting Monday. The news division's motto is now "See the Whole Picture," a slogan that seems tailor-made to invite viewers anxious for some clarity during the 2012 election season -- and afterward, of course. There's the new tagline and also a new leading image of the net's entire on-air staff posed together in a yearbook-style photo, with Barbara Walters front and center, in red, flanked by Katie Couric and Diane Sawyer. The new campaign will emphasize ABC News' ability to make stories about far-reaching events relevant to American viewers, and puts major emphasis on the Alphabet's roster of personalities.ABC's calling card has been the claim "More Americans get their news from ABC News" since at least 1988 (it's been around so long, representatives for the network couldn't remember having been without it), so the change is major. Sherwood told journos in October that the "more Americans" statement was literally true, now more than ever, as the company partnered with Yahoo to provide wider distribution for its content.During that deal, as well, ABC touted its bench of anchors and correspondents. Sherwood, who joined the net just over a year ago, has focued on talent moves in his first year on the job, sometimes sacrificing exclusivity to nab or keep a major newsperson. Katie Couric joined the Alphabet after her departure from CBS, and will report for ABC News as she works on her new syndie yakker for ABC/Disney Domestic TV. And just last week, ABC and CNN negotiated an unprecedented deal to share Christiane Amanpour, for whom ABC's traditionally domestic-politics-heavy "This Week" seemed an uncomfortable fit ("This Week" saw editions based in both Libya and Egypt this year). Amanpour will have several specials a year on ABC and will report for CNN.As the campaign rolls out through 2012, it will emphasize that versatility even as the division's reach expands via Yahoo. The promos will appear on all ABC News broadcasts to begin with, and will land on ABC News Radio, on abcnews.com and on Yahoo! in 2012. Contact Sam Thielman at sam.thielman@variety.com

No wonder, then, when Netflix CEO Reed Hastings finally took the floor, it was standing-room, with heavy hitters like Harvey Weinstein joining an audience primarily of Wall Street bankers and analysts. Before Hastings sat down for a Q&A with UBS executive Aryeh Bourkoff, his ears must have been burning, since he and Netflix had already been discussed by Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes, CBS CEO Leslie Moonves, Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffei and others. "Last year you were a key topic here, but you were not here. There was a mix of fear, envy and mystique," Bourkoff said, noting that it was the first time Hastings appeared at the UBS Global Media and Communications Conference. "Now it's just pity," Hastings joked, a reference to a decimated stock price and a dented reputation brought about by a dramatic price increase and other public-relations misfires. Hastings told the audience that he considers the "quite impressive" HBO Go his primary competition. If the on-demand service for HBO subscribers was part of Netflix, it would account for 25 percent of its customers' streaming, he estimated. "They're not competing directly with us, but they can," Hastings said. "We'll push each other like two runners." Referencing Netflix's upcoming original series House of Cards, Hastings said of HBO in general: "They are becoming more like us and we are becoming more like them." Hastings also predicted that within 10 years about half of all TV viewing in the U.S. will come via the Internet, and it's that assumption that caused the company to charge head-strong into streaming even though, in hindsight, the move was "a little too fast" and he ended up irritating consumers. He acknowledged that he and the executives at Netflix rarely watch DVDs anymore, so he may have misread the typical consumer. "Our big obsession for the year was, 'let's not live and die by DVD,'" he said. Of the 60 percent price hike that got the company so much negative attention and cost Netflix about 1 million subscribers, Hastings said: "We berate ourselves tremendously for that lack of insight." Hastings said Netflix will stream 1 billion hours of content this quarter and, if House of Cards goes well, he could see the company eventually spending as much as 15 percent of its content-acquisition budget on original shows. Hide
Carla Gugino in "Hide"Shot in New Orleans by Stephanie Germain Prods. Executive producer, Germain producer, Christopher Morgan director, John Grey author, Jesse Brownell in line with the novel by Lisa Gardner.Detective D.D. Warren - Carla Gugino
Det. Bobby Dodge - Kevin Alejandro
Alex Wilson - Mark-Paul Gosselaar
Annabelle - Bridget ReganTNT's "Mystery Movie Evening" is unquestionably a throwback towards the days of old of TV movies, but perform the projects really need to be plucked directly from a period machine? Enter "Hide," a harsh, nasty and almost comically overheated potboiler, featuring Carla Gugino like a Boston detective looking into the mummified remains of six youthful women. It is a mystery, it is a place of work romantic triangular, it's two taste goodies in a single. While it's nice to determine made-fors creating a small-comeback, it will not last lengthy if they are as dunderheaded as that one. The physiques are located within an abandoned mental hospital, and D.D. Warren (Gugino) and fellow detective Bobby Ridge (Kevin Alejandro) are rapidly around the situation. Indeed, and they are also sleeping together, but with no commitment because, as D.D. describes, "I'm for each other. With this particular. Using what I actually do.Inch Getting not read Lisa Gardner's novel, let us assume author Jesse Brownell attempted to become faithful towards the tone, however it completely flummoxed her and director John Grey, who've concocted a film full of stilted dialogue and improbable twists and turns. Many of them focus on a mysterious lady named Annabelle (Bridget Regan) having a vague past who becomes area of the situation, along with a potential target for that shadowy killer. D.D. also accumulates a brand new investigator, Alex (Mark-Paul Gosselaar), who quickly feels at liberty to psychoanalyze her relationship with Bobby when he is not helping seek clues. If their banter should be sexy, the actual mystery is the reason why she does not mace him the very first time the bozo begins insinuating themself into her mind. All this develops toward a breathless climax absurd even through the conventions from the thriller genre. It's almost worth watching going back fifteen minutes only for giggles. Although Gugino continues to be good in lots of things, it's difficult to determine what she's attempting to convey with this particular role, playing a most probably hard-bitten detective as though she's a kittenish Jessica Rabbit. On the other hand, that's most likely over-thinking things, that is something nobody will accuse the filmmakers to do. Many doubtless harbor fond reminiscences from the "Mystery Movie" wheel, and TNT -- using its selection of mostly meat-and-taters series -- warrants kudos for attempting to revive that nostalgic franchise for any new generation. Something similar to "Hide," though, isn't any method to jump-start the genre -- unless of course the aim would be to try hiding in plain sight.Camera, James Chressanthis production designer, Jaymes Hinkle editor, Neil Mandelberg music, Michael A. Ride the Cyclone

A Theatre Passe Muraille and Leading to Problems Stage Company presentation from the Atomic Vaudeville musical in one act. Book by Jacob Richmond. Lyrics and music by Brooke Maxwell and Richmond. Directed by Britt Small , Richmond. Choreographed and staged by Treena Stubel.Ocean Rosenberg - Rielle Braid
Misha Bachinsky - Matthew Coulson
Constance Blackwood - Kelly Hudson
Ough Potts - Elliot Loran
Jane Doe - Sarah Pelzer
Noel Gruber - Kohlby WardellPicture "Forever Plaid" meets "Glee" meets "Spring Awakening" you may have a great idea of "Ride the Cyclone," a completely new musical that has been kicking around for quite a while but recently was modified and mounted in the production that's offered out its entire Toronto run and created people wanted-for words round the Canadian musical scene: "The next 'Drowsy Chaperone.'" Happily, show lives around the thrill. It doesn't only have legs, it's a centipede. "Drowsy" and "Cyclone" have little to keep, except both drummed up a effective grass roots support and handled to have interaction both auds and native press. "Cyclone" arises from an eclectic west coast company referred to as Atomic Vaudeville, and Jacob Richmond's awesome book is vital. A five-voice choir from Uranium City, Saskatchewan, all die in the curler- coaster crash inside a tacky circus. They return within the dead to supply the final concert, numerous party pieces through which they sing in what their existence was like and whatever they wanted it may be. The gay guy regrets getting bought before he "kissed a man or visited Paris," and therefore does in the fantasy, as being a floozie chanteusie (Kohlby Wardell, in the virtuoso turn). The troubled daughter from the bitchy Irish mother together with a Marxist Jewish father relives the debate where she lost out, despite her awesome talent, to political correctness (Rielle Braid, remaining from cliches). Furthermore, you will find the comicbook geek who want to be a hero referred to as Bachelor Guy (Elliott Loran in fine form), the Ukranian immigrant who combines gangsta rap with classical ballet (a amusing Matthew Coulson) as well as the sweet girl who out of the blue breaks out in to a gospel song of complete disclosure (Kelly Hudson, who you'd follow anywhere). Music by Brooke Maxwell handles being tuneful and theatrical without falling into pastiche, while lyrics by Maxwell and Richmond will be clever and frequently more. Show acquires one more edge with the feel of a sixth chorister, empty-eyed and quiet since the grave. Nobody knows who she's or how she showed up, however, if she sings you understand dying might be the actual theme in the show. Artist Sarah Pelzer's empty stare and soaring voice produce a great combination for your part. A pleasurable tuner with great resonance, "Cyclone" is among the demise of small metropolitan areas, youthful lives as well as the wants an entire generation, nevertheless it can get across its message with real skill. Having its small-scale cast and production values, "Ride the Cyclone" seems a tempting prospect for canny producers.Set, Hank Pine and James Insell costumes, Ingrid Hansen lighting, Michael Franzmann. Keck's Exclusives: First Look at 90210's Teddy Getting Married
90210 A marriage to boyfriend Shane (Ryan Rottman) in early November is the beginning of the end for 90210's Teddy, played by outgoing cast member Trevor Donovan. But what a way to go. I was on set for the colorful nuptials, which take place in a cheesy Vegas chapel with an Elvis impersonator officiating. Silver captures the whole affair on a video that will go viral, and Navid playfully asks the grooms, "Which one of you is pregnant?"The occasion is bittersweet for Trevor, who appears in only two more episodes after the wedding. He says he was told that Teddy's coming out story was handled so well that "they didn't want to take anything away from it by just having me there in the background. I'm in the meat of every episode I'm in, and it's good that it's ending with a hero moment. It's a testament to the times that Trevor may go from playing gay to starring on the big screen as America's most wholesome hetero beau Ken in an in-the-works Barbie movie. "I've had a few meetings with the producer who's working with Mattel to get this thing off the ground," confirms Trevor, who already has his eye on Glee's Dianna Agron to play his Barbie. "I worked with her on a clothing campaign last year and she is just a doll." Perhaps literally.Subscribe to TV Guide Magazine now!Watch Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows For Free

Dolphin Tale Producer States About Morgan Freemans Anti-Tea Party Remarks: I Don't Accept Is As True Affected Even A Dollar!
Between now and also the 2012 presidential election, Hollywood filmmakers is going to be putunder much more scrutiny for each political statement they create. The most recent twist is whetherthe movie moguls think politically open stars shouldn’t be cast because 50% of the nation who disagree using their sights won’t come out in the box office to determine their photos. The most recent example is Morgan Freeman who on Fridaywent on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight and deniedhe’d provided narration for any Tea Party-supported Republican candidate’s attack ad last November. Then your Oscar champion blasted theTea Party, calling their aggressive ambitions “racist” for his or her opposition to Leader Obama.”Their mentioned policy, openly mentioned, would be to do whatever needs doing to ensure that Obama only serves one term,” Freeman stated. “What underlines that? ‘Screw the nation. We’re likely to whatever we are able to to obtain this black guy out of here.’” Freeman stated the Tea Party agenda”just shows the weak, dark, bottom of America” and added, “We’re said to be much better than that.” The timing couldn’t happen to be worse for Alcon Entertainment and Warner Bros as well as their Dolphin Tale starring Freeman. Immediately, the web full of media chatter that Freeman’s claims would hurt Dolphin Tale in the box office a few days ago because itfeatured him conspicuously within the movie trailer and TV adsaimed in the American heartland. So today I requested Alcon Entertainment co-founder Andrew Kosove whether he thoughtthe Freeman ruckus had hurt the pic a few days ago. (Kosove had expected it to win this area office derby but itfinished No. 3 having a solid $20.2M): We're obviously delighted (and humbled) because it would be a very unusual movie to greenlight within this era….an active action family drama. It had been a “throwback” to another amount of time in Hollywood when family films were built with a completely different composition from today. So far as Morgan, I don’t have to be “off the record”. (I'm not really an “off the record” type of guy). I don't accept is as true affected Dolphin Tale‘s gross by even a dollar! I don't share Morgan’s view and don't believe this type of harsh partianship by either finish of politcal spectrum is useful during these very hard occasions. Nevertheless, as an individual who has some libertarian viewpoints myself, I STRONGLY have confidence in Morgan’s to express whatever values he's on any subject. We're a totally free country….thankfully!

'Wicked' flies with digital
'Wicked'As the lone West End survivor of the dozen tuners that opened in 2006, "Wicked," celebrating its fifth anniversary Sept. 27, looks to be chugging along as strongly as its Broadway counterpart, which after eight years, shows no sign of slowing. But in the U.K., where "The Wizard of Oz" is far less of a cultural icon than in the U.S., much of the London success of the Emerald City redux comes down to the West End production's groundbreaking use of online and digital marketing."To an extent, we were following Broadway's lead," says Jo Hutchison of marketing company Jo Hutchison Intl., whose credits include "Mamma Mia," "Priscilla Queen of the Desert" and which handled the London launch for advertising and marketing company Dewynters. "But at the time, convincing everyone that musical theater fans would communicate with each other online was definitely an uphill struggle. Theater hadn't really done that before in a major way. The digital marketing spend for 'Wicked' was higher than for any other musical."Ad dollars were shifted away from traditional avenues of major print and off-line locations, and online the show even moved well beyond the expected forum of theater-specific websites. Proof of its success is now highly visible on Twitter and Facebook, where the London production has around 40,000 fans who are constantly updated with the show's every development on- and off-stage. The digital strategy seems to be working at the box office: According to the show's London executive producer Michael McCabe -- who teamed with U.S. producers Marc Platt and David Stone on the Brit incarnation -- the accumulated gross at the 2,292-seat Apollo Victoria is "in excess of 145 million" ($228 million). Its only rival for the weekly top financial spot is Disney's "The Lion King," which is in a similarly large auditorium."Wicked" also boasts year-on-year growth with its 2010 total of $47.2 million marking a 10% rise over 2009. This year is on target, McCabe adds, averaging in excess of $967,000 per week, up 7.5% compared to 2010.(If that weekly gross seems low compared to Gotham totals, it's because London ticket prices are significantly lower. The weekend top is $102 compared with Broadway's $130. Moreover, London has far fewer premium seats, and they're priced at $145, which pales beside $276.25 at the Gershwin.)The London incarnation isn't resting on its laurels: An additional specialist company, Think Jam, was brought on board earlier this year to handle digital PR and promotions."Theaters tend to speak to their core audience using expected theater-ish environments and websites," says Think Jam commercial director Philip Rose. "That's a closed group. We're widening that out, working online with video content on broader entertainment websites and far beyond."With a client list including 20th Century Fox, Fox Searchlight, Universal Pictures and Warner Bros., the company applied its handling of movie releases and rollouts -- exclusive placements of first-look packages on high-traffic portals, syndicating material to websites and blogs -- to the similar needs of "Wicked."Although the company uses a film-centric approach, Rose highlights one major difference. "With a movie you have a strictly defined time period through pre-release to opening. For a long-running theater show like 'Wicked,' the campaign is about a continually ongoing dialogue. The social media activity surrounding it illustrates that it's not about merely plundering people's excitement for the show, but about building a relationship with them." Unlike plays, which only very rarely expect audiences to return for multiple viewings, tuners thrive on repeat business. In the case of "Wicked," that's boosted with "Ozmopolitan," the show's monthly newsletter sent out to the entire fanbase via direct email and social media, all of which is linked together. There's also major outreach work to family websites and "mummy blogs" and placement programs with the educational sectors to capitalize on the tuner's youth appeal.Happy though he is with the marketing, McCabe remains clear-eyed about its potential."You can spend a lot of money and achieve something in the short term but marketing alone doesn't turn shows around. We have been able to enhance a popular show. It's the show itself that counts. That's why were still here after five years." Anti-trust org rules against Canal Plus
PARIS -- In France They anti-trust board has suspended its approval of Canal Plus Group's merger with pay TV operator TPS, and penalized the paybox group Pounds $ 30 million ($41 million) for breaking its obligations. The anti-trust board claims that Canal Plus Group has degraded the standard of TPS channels, and it has not given all of them with recent American films and sports privileges. Greenlit at the end of 2006, the merger has permitted Canal Plus Group to create together its very own satellite platform, CanalSat, using its former pay TV rival, TPS, to be able to boast a powerful package of film channels. However the anti-trust board, that was cautious about the merger, requested Canal Plus Group to fulfil 59 needs by 2012. Lars Von Trier Isn't Technically Sorry He Made That Nazi Joke
"What can I say? I understand Hitler," said Lars von Trier during a press conference at the Cannes Film Festival in May. "But I think he did some wrong things, yes absolutely, but I can see him sitting in his bunker. But there will come a point, at the end of this... I'm just saying, I think I understand the man. He's not what you would call a good guy, but yeah, I understand much about him and I sympathize with him a little bit." Needless to say, the ill-advised attempt at humor ("humor") caused the 'Melancholia' director much grief: he was named as a persona non grata by Cannes Film Festival organizers and, not surprisingly, had to apologize for the remarks. About that apology. Said Von Trier to GQ in an exclusive interview: To say I'm sorry for what I said is to say I'm sorry for what kind of a person I am, I'm sorry for my morals, and that would destroy me as a person. It's not true. I'm not sorry. I am not sorry for what I said. I'm sorry that it didn't come out more clearly. I'm not sorry that I made a joke, but I'm sorry that I didn't make it clear that it was a joke. But I can't be sorry for what I said-it's against my nature. Maybe, but that's maybe where I'm really sick in my mind. You can't be sorry about something that's fundamentally you. Maybe I'm a freak in that sense. The the lengthy interview with GQ writer Chris Heath also features a moment when Von Trier is forced to watch his infamous Cannes press conference. "This is why I shouldn't do interviews," he said when confronted with the footage. "I should just shut up and I should do my films. This was terrible to listen to." Six more pix in mix for foreign-lingo Oscar
"Promise of War," which bowed in May throughout Cannes' Experts Week, is France's submission for that foreign-language Oscar.
Six more nations have revealed their challengers for foreign-language Oscar consideration in the Oscars in Feb.France will be sending Valerie Donzelli's "Promise of War," single.3 million ($1.7 million) dramedy that bowed in Cannes' Critics' Week.Created by Rectangle Prods., "War" follows a youthful couple who find it difficult to save their baby from the brain tumor, according to Donzelli's own experience. "War" has made nearly $3.3 million in the box office in 2 days. Pic has offered to a lot more than 30 areas, such as the U.S., where Sundance Chooses required privileges after Cannes. Portugal has nominated Miguel Goncalves Mendes' documentary "Jose and Pilar" concerning the final many years of Nobel Prize-winning novelist Jose Saramago. The pic was co-created through the director's JumpCut, Fernando Meirelles' O2 and Pedro Almodovar's El Deseo. United States privileges happen to be offered to Outsider Pictures.Belgium has selected dark thriller "Rundskop" (Bullhead) in regards to a youthful player (Matthias Schoenaerts) who pumps illegal growth the body's hormones into themself and the cattle, with unpredicted effects.Directed beginning with-timer Michael R. Roskam, the film mixes Flemish- and French-speaking figures, which makes it an uncommon illustration of a tale straddling Belgium's primary language towns. "Rundskop" first showed worldwide at Berlin in Feb."Le Havre," directed, written and created by Aki Kaurismaki, will repetition Finland. The film focuses on a guy who stands out footwear as a living, who attempts to save a refugee child.Pic, selected with a jury supervised through the Finnish Film Chamber, won the Fipresci prize and also the special reference to the Ecumenical Jury at Cannes. It had been created by Sputnik Oy, and co-created by France's Pyramide Prods. and Germany's The planet pandora Film. The Iranian Secretary of state for Culture and Islamic Guidance tried to block Farhadi from production carrying out a speech by which he known as for banned filmmakers, including Mohsen Makhmalbaf, who's in self-enforced exile, and Jafar Panahi, who's under house arrest, to become permitted revisit the Iranian film scene. The federal government rescinded the prohibit after Farhadi apologized for his remarks. That causes it to be even more surprising that the board of nine cineastes designated through the Farabi Motion picture Foundation, a joint venture partner towards the ministry, chose "Nader and Simin." Oscar Time: Film Fests Preview Awards Prospects
TORONTO (AP) Now that the summer blockbusters have been tucked away, it's time for Hollywood's next big season: the marathon haul to Academy Awards night. The Toronto International Film Festival that runs through Sunday and the recently wrapped Telluride and Venice film fests are the usual starting points for awards season, with studios trotting out contenders months ahead of time to spark Oscar buzz.Unlike last year, when eventual Oscar champ "The King's Speech" charged out of the festival circuit as the film to beat, a mixed bag has emerged so far this time.Festival films have showcased great performances from past Oscar winners and nominees, among them George Clooney, Glenn Close, Vanessa Redgrave and Ryan Gosling. The Toronto festival also has some searing performances from emerging stars, including Michael Fassbender's full-frontal turn as a sex addict in "Shame," which earned him the best-actor prize at the Venice festival just before Toronto. No matter how it all plays out on Oscar night Feb. 26, the odds are that many nominees will have gotten their start at the late-summer festivals. Five of the last six best-picture winners played one or more of the Telluride, Venice and Toronto fests, including 2009's "The Hurt Locker" and 2008's "Slumdog Millionaire."Studios once unveiled more awards contenders later in the year. But when the Oscars moved from late March to late February a few years back, Hollywood scrambled to get their prestige films in the pipeline sooner to get the awards hype going."With the new Oscar dates, Toronto has really become the launching ground for the Oscar season," said Tom Bernard, co-president of Sony Pictures Classics.Clooney who had 2005 writing and directing nominations for "Good Night, and Good Luck" and won a supporting-actor Oscar for "Syriana" the same year is back with two films at Toronto that could compete for awards. He directed and co-starred in the political thriller "The Ides of March," which features a powerful performance from Gosling as a campaign press secretary who stumbles into a scandal. And Clooney delivers a heartbreaking turn as a neglectful father forced to step up his parenting after his wife falls into an accident-induced coma in "The Descendants," from director Alexander Payne ("Sideways").Two-time Oscar nominee Brad Pitt already earned awards chatter last spring for "The Tree of Life," filmmaker Terrence Malick's challenging family saga that won the top prize at Cannes. Pitt came to Toronto with his baseball tale "Moneyball," putting in a flamboyant performance as iconoclastic Oakland A's general manager Billy Beane.Pitt likes the thought that awards attention can help films find an audience, but he's uneasy at the prospect of the months of glad-handing and public appearances that go along with Oscar season."I don't want to spend any time thinking about it," Pitt said. "It's really nice when your number comes up, and it's really nice when your friends' numbers come up. In fact, that's even nicer. You've got something to root for, and ultimately, you don't have to give up your Sunday."There's a reason they call it a season now. I wish they would just combine them all into one. Can't we just make it one day? Everyone conglomerates, get it over, and then we can enjoy our lives."Other festival films grabbing Oscar attention: Redgrave as Queen Elizabeth I and Rhys Ifans as an aristocrat some think actually wrote Shakespeare's plays in "Anonymous"; Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain for "Take Shelter," about a family man with visions of a coming apocalyptic storm; Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a cancer patient in "50/50"; and Close as a woman who disguises herself as a man to find work as a hotel butler in 19th century Ireland in "Albert Nobbs."Plenty of potential contenders have yet to screen, including Clint Eastwood's "J. Edgar," a portrait of FBI boss J. Edgar Hoover that stars Leonard DiCaprio. Steven Spielberg has two films coming in December, the action tale "The Adventures of Tintin" and the World War I epic "War Horse." Meryl Streep, the acting record-holder with 16 nominations, might be in the running for another as Margaret Thatcher in "The Iron Lady."Summer also produced a possible awards contender with the hit literary adaptation "The Help."Close has been nominated five times for Oscars for films such as "Dangerous Liaisons," ''Fatal Attraction" And "The World According to Garp." She's not a fan of judging one performance against another, but Close has a nearly 30-year history with her "Albert Nobbs" character, which she first played on stage in 1982 before developing the film version as a producer and co-writer."How you actually choose who's better than who I've always been a little uncomfortable with," Close said. "But this, to be so invested in something and to be recognized for it, would be thrilling to me.""The Artist," a hangover from May's Cannes Film Festival, continues to charm as it plays to Toronto crowds and could be one of the most unusual contenders for major prizes the Oscars has seen in decades. The film is a black-and-white silent movie about a 1920s Hollywood star (Jean Dujardin) whose career crumbles as talkies take over the big screen. Dujardin won the best-actor prize for "The Artist" at Cannes, and the film has awards prospects for best picture and actress for co-star Berenice Bejo, who plays a rising star of the sound era and is the wife of the film's writer-director, Michel Hazanavicius. The filmmaker is trying to ignore the awards talk, considering "The Artist" has not yet opened in theaters."It's very touching for me and very gratifying, but what can I say now? I cannot really take it seriously, to be honest," Hazanavicius said. "It's OK people are talking, but also maybe, I don't want to be disappointed in three months."Copyright 2011 Associated Press. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo heads up Highlander remake
Earlier this year TF reported that the Highlander reboot was back on track, with RCR Media Group pitching in to help Summit Entertainment finance the film.At that point Summit claimed Justin Lin was still on board when it came to directing.Today Summit announced that Spanish director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later, Intruders) will be helming the reboot - effectively removing Lin as head honcho in an apt nod to a series that uses decapitation to weed out weak warriors from the strong. It seems Lin might have a touch of the immortal about him, though. The statement goes on to say that, "Justin Lin will also executive produce".Ramirez would be proud.Highlander will be written by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway and production is slated to begin spring of 2012.Watch Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Full Movie

The Full Meets the 'Real' Shakespeare in New 'Anonymous' Clip (VIDEO)
What should you have had written probably the most brilliant works in history, just for another person to consider all of the credit? This is the dilemma director Roland Emmerich explores in 'Anonymous,' a movie in regards to a guy who authored plays which were eventually credited to William Shakespeare. (Actually, the film poster for that film asks the conspiracy theorist question, "Was Shakespeare a Fraud?"). Within this new clip in the film, Princess Elizabeth (Joely Richardson) meets a youthful Edward p Vere, the supposed "anonymous" author the film is known as after -- and takes a significant liking to him. 'Anonymous' -- which premieres in the Toronto Worldwide Film Festival -- hits theaters on March. 28.

The Exquisite Torture of Playing King Lear
NEW YORK (AP) On a "King Lear" day, the torture starts early in the morning for Greg Hicks.Even before the actor opens his eyes in his hotel room, the lines of Shakespeare's great play come coursing through his brain like some dastardly internal alarm clock, more fiendish than any real one. And the words don't let up, all day long. They tease him, hound him, make him wonder ceaselessly: "Am I doing it right?"Anyone who thinks doing 85 performances of "Lear" over two years for one of the world's premier classical theater companies might make one cocky or reasonably confident, or relaxed should talk to Hicks, who's currently playing the role in the Royal Shakespeare Company's virtually sold-out engagement at the Park Avenue Armory."Eighty-five performances, and I'm still frightened of it," confesses Hicks, 58. "I still have to take a very deep breath."And he needs all the breath he's got in a rotation that sounds both physically and mentally draining, Hicks also plays two other big roles in the RSC's five-play, six-week run here (a partnership with the Armory, The Ohio State University and the Lincoln Center Festival): the tragically jealous Leontes in "The Winter's Tale," for which he's gotten his most glowing notices, and Julius Caesar. But he's clearly the most obsessed with and vexed by Lear, that misguided ancient monarch who poses an Everest-like challenge to even the most accomplished actor. It's the Bermuda Triangle of Shakespearean roles, to hear Hicks tell it: Just when you think you're in, you're lost."The remarkable thing," the actor says, sitting in a darkened lounge at the Armory one recent afternoon, "is that the more you do it, the more elusive and unfathomable it becomes." He fears that might sound pretentious. "Honestly, I am not being all actory and wanky here," he insists.Wanky isn't a word one would immediately think of to describe the slim, bearded Hicks, who speaks with all the intensity and clarity you'd expect from a Shakespearean actor (though the flip-flops he's wearing with his name emblazoned in magic marker DO seem a bit wanky.)Ironically, Hicks' obvious physical fitness he is a young 58 has not played to his advantage during the current run of "Lear"; some critics have opined that he looks too young and spry to play the role. Hicks wonders why people assume Lear to be a doddering octogenarian."At the end of the play, Lear kills a man how does he do that if he has no strength?" he asks, animatedly. "And he rides around the country on his horses! Paul Scofield was 48 when he played Lear. I'm 58 I have grandchildren." And don't get him started on John Gielgud: "He was 24 when he first played it."Just those two names show you what Hicks is up against every great classical actor of a certain age has seemingly tackled Lear. Only this past spring, Derek Jacobi brought his version to New York."It's difficult because everyone has a particular take on it," Hicks says. "I chose to play a less sympathetic character." Indeed, his Lear declares himself as a manipulator from his first entrance, where he tricks everyone watching by entering from a side where no one expects him."That was my idea," Hicks says with a grin. "I said I wanted to begin the play by wrong-footing the audience."The actor gets a laugh with the entrance, and here Hicks is using something he says he learned from the late Sir Ralph Richardson. "He told me to take the first opportunity to get a laugh, especially in these tragedies," Hicks says. "Because THEN, you can make them cry. Not the other way around."Hicks, who supplements his stage work with TV work in Britain, played his first Shakespearean role at age 11, if you can imagine an 11-year-old Shylock in "The Merchant of Venice." He played Malvolio ("Twelfth Night") at 15, the same age a teacher wrote on his report card: "This boy should become a professional actor."He's worked for years with the RSC, which is based in Shakespeare's birthplace of Stratford-upon-Avon, and where actors are hired for short-term contracts. "I like to think that they'll keep asking me back," he says. He's already in a select group of prominent Shakespearean actors, but here's a much more exclusive group: prominent Shakespearean actors who almost became rabbis."A spiritual communicator and a theatrical communicator there's a similarity, I suppose," Hicks muses. "I'm a naturally talkative, verbal person." Ultimately, he was persuaded by passionate teachers to go the theatrical route although at acting school he also got a teaching degree, which made his father happy. (His 100-year old dad remains his biggest supporter and ally, Hicks says.)The actor's interests also veer to capoeira the Brazilian martial arts/dance form which he uses to warm up before shows, along with yoga. He spends an hour and a half getting ready, physically and vocally, for each show. His dressing room at the Armory is filled with protein bars, bananas and vitamin pills to help him get through the draining run. He also meditates, which surely serves him well when reading reviews "a terrible addiction," he confesses. "I read all of them. My partner has banned me from doing it, but I don't listen."And he takes what critics say to heart, sometimes even adjusting his performance, he says, but always paying attention. What some reviewers, including The Associated Press, suggested was a somewhat cerebral, less emotional quality to his Lear, Hicks, ever the artist, took as full-blown criticism. He also didn't like being called "well-spoken" by some "that's underhanded, isn't it?" he says and has choice words for one reviewer who called him "wispy and wiry.""'Lear' was hard," he says. "I arrived in New York, had one day off, and went straight to dress rehearsal in front of an audience. And then I was blown out of the water," he says, exaggerating just a little. When his interviewer protests that one prominent review was hardly a pan, he agrees, but says: "It was more of a rejection than an affirmation." He does acknowledge that his Leontes in "Winter's Tale" received unqualified praise. And the audience reaction in New York has been gratifying. "At the end of the day this has been a sellout," he says even at prices up to $250 per premium seat. "I musn't obsess too much."He adds: "You can feel the genuine relish here. The quality of listening is very sharp. You deliver a line, and you can hear the shimmer on it."Al Pacino came one night. "Of course, I wanted him to offer me a role in his next movie," Hicks quips. He will soon appear in his first big movie, a small role in "Snow White and the Huntsman" with Charlize Theron and Kristen Stewart. "Blink, and you'll miss me," he says.True, his is not a household name in New York, but that doesn't mean he never gets recognized. Not long ago after "Winter's Tale," he was eating dinner in a restaurant and some theatergoers came over. "We loved your Leontes," they said. "Can we buy your supper?""That," he says, "was fabulous." And the words don't let up, all day long.
