Dolphin Tale Producer States About Morgan Freemans Anti-Tea Party Remarks: I Don't Accept Is As True Affected Even A Dollar!

Between now and also the 2012 presidential election, Hollywood filmmakers is going to be putunder much more scrutiny for each political statement they create. The most recent twist is whetherthe movie moguls think politically open stars shouldn’t be cast because 50% of the nation who disagree using their sights won’t come out in the box office to determine their photos. The most recent example is Morgan Freeman who on Fridaywent on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight and deniedhe’d provided narration for any Tea Party-supported Republican candidate’s attack ad last November. Then your Oscar champion blasted theTea Party, calling their aggressive ambitions “racist” for his or her opposition to Leader Obama.”Their mentioned policy, openly mentioned, would be to do whatever needs doing to ensure that Obama only serves one term,” Freeman stated. “What underlines that? ‘Screw the nation. We’re likely to whatever we are able to to obtain this black guy out of here.’” Freeman stated the Tea Party agenda”just shows the weak, dark, bottom of America” and added, “We’re said to be much better than that.” The timing couldn’t happen to be worse for Alcon Entertainment and Warner Bros as well as their Dolphin Tale starring Freeman. Immediately, the web full of media chatter that Freeman’s claims would hurt Dolphin Tale in the box office a few days ago because itfeatured him conspicuously within the movie trailer and TV adsaimed in the American heartland. So today I requested Alcon Entertainment co-founder Andrew Kosove whether he thoughtthe Freeman ruckus had hurt the pic a few days ago. (Kosove had expected it to win this area office derby but itfinished No. 3 having a solid $20.2M): We're obviously delighted (and humbled) because it would be a very unusual movie to greenlight within this era….an active action family drama. It had been a “throwback” to another amount of time in Hollywood when family films were built with a completely different composition from today. So far as Morgan, I don’t have to be “off the record”. (I'm not really an “off the record” type of guy). I don't accept is as true affected Dolphin Tale‘s gross by even a dollar! I don't share Morgan’s view and don't believe this type of harsh partianship by either finish of politcal spectrum is useful during these very hard occasions. Nevertheless, as an individual who has some libertarian viewpoints myself, I STRONGLY have confidence in Morgan’s to express whatever values he's on any subject. We're a totally free country….thankfully!

'Wicked' flies with digital

'Wicked'As the lone West End survivor of the dozen tuners that opened in 2006, "Wicked," celebrating its fifth anniversary Sept. 27, looks to be chugging along as strongly as its Broadway counterpart, which after eight years, shows no sign of slowing. But in the U.K., where "The Wizard of Oz" is far less of a cultural icon than in the U.S., much of the London success of the Emerald City redux comes down to the West End production's groundbreaking use of online and digital marketing."To an extent, we were following Broadway's lead," says Jo Hutchison of marketing company Jo Hutchison Intl., whose credits include "Mamma Mia," "Priscilla Queen of the Desert" and which handled the London launch for advertising and marketing company Dewynters. "But at the time, convincing everyone that musical theater fans would communicate with each other online was definitely an uphill struggle. Theater hadn't really done that before in a major way. The digital marketing spend for 'Wicked' was higher than for any other musical."Ad dollars were shifted away from traditional avenues of major print and off-line locations, and online the show even moved well beyond the expected forum of theater-specific websites. Proof of its success is now highly visible on Twitter and Facebook, where the London production has around 40,000 fans who are constantly updated with the show's every development on- and off-stage. The digital strategy seems to be working at the box office: According to the show's London executive producer Michael McCabe -- who teamed with U.S. producers Marc Platt and David Stone on the Brit incarnation -- the accumulated gross at the 2,292-seat Apollo Victoria is "in excess of 145 million" ($228 million). Its only rival for the weekly top financial spot is Disney's "The Lion King," which is in a similarly large auditorium."Wicked" also boasts year-on-year growth with its 2010 total of $47.2 million marking a 10% rise over 2009. This year is on target, McCabe adds, averaging in excess of $967,000 per week, up 7.5% compared to 2010.(If that weekly gross seems low compared to Gotham totals, it's because London ticket prices are significantly lower. The weekend top is $102 compared with Broadway's $130. Moreover, London has far fewer premium seats, and they're priced at $145, which pales beside $276.25 at the Gershwin.)The London incarnation isn't resting on its laurels: An additional specialist company, Think Jam, was brought on board earlier this year to handle digital PR and promotions."Theaters tend to speak to their core audience using expected theater-ish environments and websites," says Think Jam commercial director Philip Rose. "That's a closed group. We're widening that out, working online with video content on broader entertainment websites and far beyond."With a client list including 20th Century Fox, Fox Searchlight, Universal Pictures and Warner Bros., the company applied its handling of movie releases and rollouts -- exclusive placements of first-look packages on high-traffic portals, syndicating material to websites and blogs -- to the similar needs of "Wicked."Although the company uses a film-centric approach, Rose highlights one major difference. "With a movie you have a strictly defined time period through pre-release to opening. For a long-running theater show like 'Wicked,' the campaign is about a continually ongoing dialogue. The social media activity surrounding it illustrates that it's not about merely plundering people's excitement for the show, but about building a relationship with them." Unlike plays, which only very rarely expect audiences to return for multiple viewings, tuners thrive on repeat business. In the case of "Wicked," that's boosted with "Ozmopolitan," the show's monthly newsletter sent out to the entire fanbase via direct email and social media, all of which is linked together. There's also major outreach work to family websites and "mummy blogs" and placement programs with the educational sectors to capitalize on the tuner's youth appeal.Happy though he is with the marketing, McCabe remains clear-eyed about its potential."You can spend a lot of money and achieve something in the short term but marketing alone doesn't turn shows around. We have been able to enhance a popular show. It's the show itself that counts. That's why were still here after five years." Contact David Benedict at benedictdavid@mac.com

Anti-trust org rules against Canal Plus

PARIS -- In France They anti-trust board has suspended its approval of Canal Plus Group's merger with pay TV operator TPS, and penalized the paybox group Pounds $ 30 million ($41 million) for breaking its obligations. The anti-trust board claims that Canal Plus Group has degraded the standard of TPS channels, and it has not given all of them with recent American films and sports privileges. Greenlit at the end of 2006, the merger has permitted Canal Plus Group to create together its very own satellite platform, CanalSat, using its former pay TV rival, TPS, to be able to boast a powerful package of film channels. Lars Von Trier Isn't Technically Sorry He Made That Nazi Joke

"What can I say? I understand Hitler," said Lars von Trier during a press conference at the Cannes Film Festival in May. "But I think he did some wrong things, yes absolutely, but I can see him sitting in his bunker. But there will come a point, at the end of this... I'm just saying, I think I understand the man. He's not what you would call a good guy, but yeah, I understand much about him and I sympathize with him a little bit." Needless to say, the ill-advised attempt at humor ("humor") caused the 'Melancholia' director much grief: he was named as a persona non grata by Cannes Film Festival organizers and, not surprisingly, had to apologize for the remarks. About that apology. Said Von Trier to GQ in an exclusive interview: To say I'm sorry for what I said is to say I'm sorry for what kind of a person I am, I'm sorry for my morals, and that would destroy me as a person. It's not true. I'm not sorry. I am not sorry for what I said. I'm sorry that it didn't come out more clearly. I'm not sorry that I made a joke, but I'm sorry that I didn't make it clear that it was a joke. But I can't be sorry for what I said-it's against my nature. Maybe, but that's maybe where I'm really sick in my mind. You can't be sorry about something that's fundamentally you. Maybe I'm a freak in that sense. The the lengthy interview with GQ writer Chris Heath also features a moment when Von Trier is forced to watch his infamous Cannes press conference. "This is why I shouldn't do interviews," he said when confronted with the footage. "I should just shut up and I should do my films. This was terrible to listen to." "Promise of War," which bowed in May throughout Cannes' Experts Week, is France's submission for that foreign-language Oscar. Six more nations have revealed their challengers for foreign-language Oscar consideration in the Oscars in Feb.France will be sending Valerie Donzelli's "Promise of War," single.3 million ($1.7 million) dramedy that bowed in Cannes' Critics' Week.Created by Rectangle Prods., "War" follows a youthful couple who find it difficult to save their baby from the brain tumor, according to Donzelli's own experience. "War" has made nearly $3.3 million in the box office in 2 days. Pic has offered to a lot more than 30 areas, such as the U.S., where Sundance Chooses required privileges after Cannes. Portugal has nominated Miguel Goncalves Mendes' documentary "Jose and Pilar" concerning the final many years of Nobel Prize-winning novelist Jose Saramago. The pic was co-created through the director's JumpCut, Fernando Meirelles' O2 and Pedro Almodovar's El Deseo. United States privileges happen to be offered to Outsider Pictures.Belgium has selected dark thriller "Rundskop" (Bullhead) in regards to a youthful player (Matthias Schoenaerts) who pumps illegal growth the body's hormones into themself and the cattle, with unpredicted effects.Directed beginning with-timer Michael R. Oscar Time: Film Fests Preview Awards Prospects

TORONTO (AP) Now that the summer blockbusters have been tucked away, it's time for Hollywood's next big season: the marathon haul to Academy Awards night. The Toronto International Film Festival that runs through Sunday and the recently wrapped Telluride and Venice film fests are the usual starting points for awards season, with studios trotting out contenders months ahead of time to spark Oscar buzz.Unlike last year, when eventual Oscar champ "The King's Speech" charged out of the festival circuit as the film to beat, a mixed bag has emerged so far this time.Festival films have showcased great performances from past Oscar winners and nominees, among them George Clooney, Glenn Close, Vanessa Redgrave and Ryan Gosling. The Toronto festival also has some searing performances from emerging stars, including Michael Fassbender's full-frontal turn as a sex addict in "Shame," which earned him the best-actor prize at the Venice festival just before Toronto. No matter how it all plays out on Oscar night Feb. 26, the odds are that many nominees will have gotten their start at the late-summer festivals. Five of the last six best-picture winners played one or more of the Telluride, Venice and Toronto fests, including 2009's "The Hurt Locker" and 2008's "Slumdog Millionaire."Studios once unveiled more awards contenders later in the year. But when the Oscars moved from late March to late February a few years back, Hollywood scrambled to get their prestige films in the pipeline sooner to get the awards hype going."With the new Oscar dates, Toronto has really become the launching ground for the Oscar season," said Tom Bernard, co-president of Sony Pictures Classics.Clooney who had 2005 writing and directing nominations for "Good Night, and Good Luck" and won a supporting-actor Oscar for "Syriana" the same year is back with two films at Toronto that could compete for awards. He directed and co-starred in the political thriller "The Ides of March," which features a powerful performance from Gosling as a campaign press secretary who stumbles into a scandal. And Clooney delivers a heartbreaking turn as a neglectful father forced to step up his parenting after his wife falls into an accident-induced coma in "The Descendants," from director Alexander Payne ("Sideways").Two-time Oscar nominee Brad Pitt already earned awards chatter last spring for "The Tree of Life," filmmaker Terrence Malick's challenging family saga that won the top prize at Cannes. Pitt came to Toronto with his baseball tale "Moneyball," putting in a flamboyant performance as iconoclastic Oakland A's general manager Billy Beane.Pitt likes the thought that awards attention can help films find an audience, but he's uneasy at the prospect of the months of glad-handing and public appearances that go along with Oscar season."I don't want to spend any time thinking about it," Pitt said. "It's really nice when your number comes up, and it's really nice when your friends' numbers come up. In fact, that's even nicer. You've got something to root for, and ultimately, you don't have to give up your Sunday."There's a reason they call it a season now. I wish they would just combine them all into one. Can't we just make it one day? Everyone conglomerates, get it over, and then we can enjoy our lives."Other festival films grabbing Oscar attention: Redgrave as Queen Elizabeth I and Rhys Ifans as an aristocrat some think actually wrote Shakespeare's plays in "Anonymous"; Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain for "Take Shelter," about a family man with visions of a coming apocalyptic storm; Joseph Gordon-Levitt as a cancer patient in "50/50"; and Close as a woman who disguises herself as a man to find work as a hotel butler in 19th century Ireland in "Albert Nobbs."Plenty of potential contenders have yet to screen, including Clint Eastwood's "J. Edgar," a portrait of FBI boss J. Edgar Hoover that stars Leonard DiCaprio. Steven Spielberg has two films coming in December, the action tale "The Adventures of Tintin" and the World War I epic "War Horse." Meryl Streep, the acting record-holder with 16 nominations, might be in the running for another as Margaret Thatcher in "The Iron Lady."Summer also produced a possible awards contender with the hit literary adaptation "The Help."Close has been nominated five times for Oscars for films such as "Dangerous Liaisons," ''Fatal Attraction" And "The World According to Garp." She's not a fan of judging one performance against another, but Close has a nearly 30-year history with her "Albert Nobbs" character, which she first played on stage in 1982 before developing the film version as a producer and co-writer."How you actually choose who's better than who I've always been a little uncomfortable with," Close said. "But this, to be so invested in something and to be recognized for it, would be thrilling to me.""The Artist," a hangover from May's Cannes Film Festival, continues to charm as it plays to Toronto crowds and could be one of the most unusual contenders for major prizes the Oscars has seen in decades. The film is a black-and-white silent movie about a 1920s Hollywood star (Jean Dujardin) whose career crumbles as talkies take over the big screen. Dujardin won the best-actor prize for "The Artist" at Cannes, and the film has awards prospects for best picture and actress for co-star Berenice Bejo, who plays a rising star of the sound era and is the wife of the film's writer-director, Michel Hazanavicius. The filmmaker is trying to ignore the awards talk, considering "The Artist" has not yet opened in theaters."It's very touching for me and very gratifying, but what can I say now? I cannot really take it seriously, to be honest," Hazanavicius said. "It's OK people are talking, but also maybe, I don't want to be disappointed in three months."Copyright 2011 Associated Press. Juan Carlos Fresnadillo heads up Highlander remake

Earlier this year TF reported that the Highlander reboot was back on track, with RCR Media Group pitching in to help Summit Entertainment finance the film.At that point Summit claimed Justin Lin was still on board when it came to directing.Today Summit announced that Spanish director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later, Intruders) will be helming the reboot - effectively removing Lin as head honcho in an apt nod to a series that uses decapitation to weed out weak warriors from the strong. It seems Lin might have a touch of the immortal about him, though. The statement goes on to say that, "Justin Lin will also executive produce".Ramirez would be proud.Highlander will be written by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway and production is slated to begin spring of 2012.

The Full Meets the 'Real' Shakespeare in New 'Anonymous' Clip (VIDEO)

What should you have had written probably the most brilliant works in history, just for another person to consider all of the credit? This is the dilemma director Roland Emmerich explores in 'Anonymous,' a movie in regards to a guy who authored plays which were eventually credited to William Shakespeare. (Actually, the film poster for that film asks the conspiracy theorist question, "Was Shakespeare a Fraud?"). Within this new clip in the film, Princess Elizabeth (Joely Richardson) meets a youthful Edward p Vere, the supposed "anonymous" author the film is known as after -- and takes a significant liking to him. We've not even seen 'Contagion' yet, however the look on Gwyneth's Paltrow's dying face (spoiler?) continues to be ample to create us clean our hands with bleach and sandpaper these past couple of days. Within the more inspired ad campaigns recently, the marketing team at Warner Bros. Canada hired a team of microbiologist and immunologists to produce some truly one-of-a-kind advertisements for that Steven Soderbergh-directed film in the Toronto Worldwide Film Festival. Not the type of posters you'll want hanging up inside your bed room, possibly, but -- as observed in the recording ahead -- they definitely fit the movie's tone. One germaphobe's nightmare is yet another horror buff's excitement. 'Contagion' has gone out in theaters now.
